installing safari on ubuntu

Because I need to run a service from my service provider that is only supported by Microsoft Internet Explorer or Safari.

I should care but I don’t.

First, install wine, an application that allows you to run Microsoft Windows apps on ubuntu:

# sudo apt-get install -y wine

Create download and build directory:

# mkdir -p ~/build/safari

# cd ~/build/safari

Download Safari:

# wget

And finally, open it using wine:

# wine SafariSetup.exe

On my first attempt, I had the following issue  when installing wine:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
wine1.6: Depends: wine1.6-amd64 (= 1:1.6.2-0ubuntu4)but 1:1.6.2-0ubuntu4 is to be installed Depends: wine1.6-i386 (= 1:1.6.2-0ubuntu4) but it is a virtual package

Distribution upgrade did the trick (backup your relevant data):

# sudo apt-get -u dist-upgrade

cheers 🙂
